Saturday School: Learning the Sukūn and the Night Journey

Written by on . Posted in .

Bismillāh wal-ḥamdulillāh.

Our children have been busy learning at Saturday School this week, before their hard-earned half-term break, building their Arabic reading and their understanding of the religion.

Arabic

This week our children learnt the Arabic symbol of the sukūn ( ـْ ), along with 14 new words, helping them to read more fluently.

They also took part in a joining exercise, matching each Arabic word to its English meaning, with the words deliberately mixed up to test their understanding. Among the words they learnt were ثَلْجٌ (ice), ثَعْلَبٌ (fox), ثُعْبَانٌ (snake) and ثَوْرٌ (bull).

Islamic Studies

In Islamic Studies, our children learnt about al-Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj, the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet ﷺ:

  • al-Isrāʾ is the Night Journey from the Kaʿbah in Makkah to Bayt al-Maqdis in Jerusalem.
  • al-Miʿrāj is the ascension from Jerusalem to the heavens.

They read the āyāt from Sūrat al-Isrāʾ and Sūrat an-Najm that mention it, learnt new vocabulary such as ascension, descend and polytheist, and answered questions in their workbooks about when and how the journey took place.

  • Salafi School Arabic and Islamic Studies workbooks
  • Arabic words with their English meanings, practising the sukūn
  • Islamic Studies workbook open on the lesson about al-Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj
  • Pots of pencils ready for the Saturday School students

We ask Allāh to bless our students, make their learning easy for them, and reward their teachers.

    Jazākumullāhu khayran.
