Chapter 15: Encouragement to spend generously in avenues of good, and warning against withholding and hoarding out of miserliness
Hadith 916: On the authority of Abū Umāmah (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said:
“O son of Aadam, if you spend your surplus wealth (in charity), it would be better for you; but if you were to withhold it, it is to your detriment.
You will not be blamed for [keeping] what suffices you.
Begin with those whom you are responsible for (dependents).
And the upper hand is better than the lower hand.”
